Building Driftwood Furniture
There is a primal draw to nature’s bounty of beautiful driftwood, with its natural patina of silver gray tones, and rounded edges from riding the surf and beaches of sand and stone. If you’re at all like me the natural forms of driftwood are a constant draw to the eye when walking the beach, firing my imagination as I wonder, “what could I create with that?”
This three day course will show you how to identify different woods and assess which are better than others. Each student will build a bench or other simple furniture piece, using different building techniques and fastening systems. We will also look at designing and the creative process while building furniture.
Tuition and class size: $500 - Three day course. The minimum number of students for the class to run is 2 to a maximum of 6.
Materials and tools: Most materials provided and we will explore the beach to find more. Some personal hand tools needed. Student tool list provided with the registration package. The school will provide all other hand/power tools and machinery necessary, as well as a printed or PDF version of the course handouts.
